HAVE FUN EARNING YOUR COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS BY VOLUNTEERING !
The belief in some communities is that you sign you child up for a sports program and everything else will be provided for them. This is just not true, it takes a huge combined effort of many hours by volunteers who make it all happen for the kids. Cooper City does not have a paid Parks & Recreation staff to provide for the needs of the 5000+ kids who play sports in our city.
Cooper City Cobras Soccer starts with pre-season planning sessions, creating the necessary documentation, mailing and advertising, locating and contacting division coordinators, registration sessions, evaluations, indentifying and contacting the coaches needed for each team, team selection, scheduling, uniform picture and awards ordering, referee training and scheduling, setting up the goals and nets, delivering equipment and uniforms, keeping track of ongoing games statistics, dealing with daily issues, Soccer Festival and end of season cleanup. Somewhere in there is also the need for keeping track and maintenance of the equipment. This is only for the recreational season; we also exercise a very similar loop for the 5v5 and Travel soccer divisions.
In the beginning of each season the soccer board starts as a handful of people, as the season progresses several division coordinators are added, administrative helpers are required for registration sessions. This is where it gets more complicated. At the conclusion of the registration session, we know how many teams in each age division we will field, and each season we always seem to fall short on the volunteer side for coaches. After many phone calls identifying these last few coaches, we select teams, order uniforms trophies and pictures, set up the goals, create a schedule, and start the practice and games. In parallel to all of these actions during the recreational season our volunteer soccer festival committee plans out the end of season Soccer Fest. At the conclusion of each season we need a few volunteers to remove the nets from the goal post, sort, clean, inventory the goalkeeper jerseys, cones, and balls, and prepare these items for storage until the next season. Between each season the soccer board meets several times to refine the process, look at new vendors for uniforms, equipment, photos, or awards, and sets up a rough plan for the next season.
To date we have not turned away any Cooper City children who have registered for our soccer programs during the normal registration sessions, although each season we spend many hours on the telephone trying to find those last several coaches.
